So they're good ways to signal these character traits without having to spell them out to your reader. Embellishment (especially of feelings - i.e. the order made me flaming mad versus a little irritated) is allowed and encouraged! There is nothing useless on any of the pages. Keeping track of the myriad of information in a series is a challenging task. This story digs around, exposes secrets and watches them affect the characters.

Don't put internal monologue into parenthesis and don't use the attribute he thought. For example, he can rescue his “friend” from the “bad guys”, only to discover that he is really a spy, sent to inform on him. I found your comments on my stories, and other students’ stories, helpful and to the point. That the characters are getting into more trouble, that the events matter a bit more, and these may be tiny, tiny steps but you just need to create this feeling of movement towards something more important all the time.
